Aka rotation.

For a dimension 2 vector field $V=(A,B)$: $$ {\rm rot}(A,B) = B_x - A_y.$$ where $B_x, A_y$ are the partial derivatives of the component functions.

The rotation assign to a vector field a certain scalar function.
