Question: Let $I$ be an interval in $R$ and let $f : I \rightarrow R$ and $g : I \rightarrow R$ be continuous. Show that the function $max( f , g): I \rightarrow R$ given by $max( f , g)( x) = max( f ( x), g( x))$ is continuous.
